FAQ Digital Lifeware

What is Digital Lifeware?
Digital Lifeware is a high quality, manufacture-on-demand (MoD) service for software. Accessible via the internet or our flagship retail store, Digital Lifeware has the widest selection of software available from a single source. We call it Lifeware because it is so much more than “traditional” software. It includes titles on learning languages, kids and adult education, games, multi-media creation and office software. In future, it will include a whole range of other types of digital tools and content for just about anything you want to do. Keep checking the website as we add more content and stores.

What is manufacture-on-demand?
Manufacture-on-demand is the safest and most efficient way to buy and manage your digital media. Simply browse through our extensive catalogue, click on the title/s you wish to purchase and we will burn your media along with cover, notes and the manual.

What software and digital tools are available from Digital Lifeware?
Currently Digital Lifeware holds a catalogue of over 1,000 quality titles that is growing daily. Initially these titles are primarily software, however we are introducing DVD and BluRay movies, spoken word (audio books), phone software, game console software, e books and music.

Is it legal?
One of the key differentiators of Digital Lifeware product is that it is an exact, certified, warranted and rights managed copy of the publisher/rights owner’s product.

What is the difference between manufacture-on-demand and burn-on-demand?
Manufacture on demand (MoD) includes everything you need that makes up the whole, original, quality product, e.g. high quality full colour covers, disks, manuals etc. all made for you and packaged in a DVD case. A Digital Lifeware product is an exact, certified copy of the publisher’s original product. It is guaranteed by us and by the publisher.

Burn-on-demand (BoD) usually only refers to a disk without a printed label, with little or no original accompanying printed content, sometimes with issues around legality and warranty.

How does it differ from downloads?
Digital Lifeware manufactures your software or digital media on order and supplies your purchase on full colour permanent labelled CD or DVD with all the manuals, covers and other printed matter. Downloads give you the same software, however all manuals are web based and there is no tangible product. You also have the problem of getting the download out of your computer and into the format you need it in, i.e. you usually have to burn it anyway and print the manuals, covers etc.

Why is a CD or DVD better than a download?
Downloading from the web can tie up your computer for hours and incur download charges from your ISP. If your connection drops out you have to start again. Digital Lifeware’s browse, click and burn service is a faster and less complicated order process with no large files to download or pay for.

You usually pay twice for downloads: once for the title and once for the bandwidth to download it. Sometimes a third time for a subscription service.

With downloads, if you lose/damage/upgrade your computer or rebuild your hard drive you have to download the title again. This entails searching for the original supplier and your download records (which is tricky if your computer is playing up.) With a Digital Lifeware title all you have to do is insert your original disc and re-install.

Will I ever have to pay for my title again?
Many download services have a time limit on accessing and reloading your data, or a limited license. Digital Lifeware titles are free of such restrictions, the software or digital content you buy is yours for life.

What about upgrades?
Digital Lifeware keeps a record of all the titles you purchase, if you have supplied us with an email address we will inform you of any upgrades or new titles as they become available.

Is my information safe?
Digital Lifeware will not share your personal information with any third party without your permission. We do not keep records of your credit cards and always use safe transaction methods.

Where is Digital Lifeware located?
Digital Lifeware can be accessed on the web www.digitallifeware.com.au and currently we have a pilot store at Big W in Winston Hills, Sydney, with new retail outlets opening soon and an office in Surry Hills.

How do I get my software?
If you order over the web your disc will be manufactured on the day we receive your order and will be posted to you. If you purchase at a Digital Lifeware retail outlet your disc will be manufactured while you wait along with original full colour cover and manual.

How do I find what I am looking for?
Digital Lifeware has a catalogue that spans over 1,000 titles and is growing daily. The interface at both the public kiosk and the web has an intuitive search function, simply type in keywords of what you require and a selection of relevant titles will appear. Alternatively, the catalogue has been divided into categories, simply browse the category most relevant to what you are looking for.

Will my order be in stock?
Because we manufacture on demand your title is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We burn the disc and print all covers and manuals upon receipt of your order. We are never out of stock, unless for some unlikely reason we run out of raw materials (blank disks, special paper etc.).

What is the environmental impact of this service?
Because we manufacture on demand there is no wastage with our products. Our carbon footprint is minimal with no unnecessary manufacturing processes or transportation. Where possible we use environmentally friendly packaging.
